Homework for the week of September 12, 2011

Thank you for checking our homework helpline. The students are adjusting well to first grade and really appear to be handling our daily schedule well. This week in class we will be learning the following things throughout the week:

Math – Graphing pictures on a pictograph, identifying right, left, most, and fewest, writing the numbers 0, 6, 8, and 9, ordering sets from smallest to largest, matching a number to a set and sorting data to build a bar-type graph. We are looking at a written assessment on Friday, September 16th. This assessment will consist of writing numbers and making towers.

Reading – On Tuesday we will have our reading test on Sam, Come Back! This test will contain comprehension questions and will require the students to use the following high-frequency words in sentences: in, on, way. On Wednesday we will start the story “Pig in a Wig” (pgs. 34-45) and our new high-frequency words will be: and, take, up. We will also be working on summarizing and realism and fantasy. A realistic story is a story that could really happen and a fantasy is a story that could not really happen.

Grammar – We will have our sentence grammar test on Tuesday. Sentences should always start with a capital letter, have a punctuation mark, and make sense. On Wednesday we will start looking at the naming parts of a sentence. The naming part of a sentence tells the person, place, animal, or thing.

SPELLING – WE WILL BE WORKING ON SPELLING WORDS WITH SHORT I. OUR PRETEST WILL BE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH AND OUR FINAL SPELLING TEST WILL BE SEPTEMBER 20TH.

REMINDERS – BOOK FAIR SHOPPING WILL TAKE PLACE ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH AND OUR CLASSROOM BOOK ORDER FORMS ARE DUE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD.
