Homework for the week of September 6, 2011

Thank you for checking our homework helpline. This week, we will be getting into our routine with all subject areas except science. The students are doing a great job adjusting to the longer days and our schedule.

In reading, we will continue reading our story, Sam, Come Back! Throughout this story, we will concentrate on characters and nonfiction. Nonfiction is a story about real people and things. Also, our reading story has been pushed back to Tuesday, September 13th. Please continue to read the story this week and practice the high frequency words (in, way, & on)

In grammar we are working on identifying sentences. Our grammar test will also take place on Tuesday, September 13th.

In spelling we are writing words with the short a sound. Our pretest will be on Thursday, September 8th. If the students receive a 100% on their pretest, they don’t have any homework in spelling that night and they do not have to take the final spelling test on Friday. If your child missed some words on the pretest, their homework that evening will be to write the missed words 5x’s each and to study for the final spelling test on Friday, September 9th.

In math we are working on making towers for the numbers 1-9, ordering numbers 0-9, placing an object on a graph, writing numbers 2,3, & 7, identifying a circle and square, identifying the number of angles of a square, and graphing pictures on a pictograph while identifying most, fewest, right, & left. At this point, I am looking at an assessment in math sometime at the beginning of next week, possibly Tuesday or Wednesday.

Reminders
School pictures are on Friday, September 9th. This week your child will also complete the first round of Dibels testing.
