This week in reading we will continue to focus on our story,
Henry and Mudge. This story highlights character and setting. Characters are the people or animals in
the story. Authors describe characters’ traits. The setting is the place and time of a story. A story can have more
than one setting. We will be having our reading assessments on Thursday,
October 27th.
Grammar – This
week in grammar we will be identifying the predicate of a sentence. The
predicate of a sentence tells what someone or something does. Our grammar
assessment will take place on Wednesday, October 26th.
Example: Henry’s
mother made a campfire.
Made a campfire would be the predicate
because it told me what Henry’s mother did.
Phonics
& Spelling – We will be working with words that contain
consonant blends. Consonant blends can come at the beginning of a word, at the
end of a word, or in the middle of a word.
Examples: pumpkin, scrub, black, and splendid
Our spelling assessment will take place on Wednesday, October
26th and our phonics assessment will take place on Thursday, October
27th.
Science – We will
start a new topic this week in science. We will be learning about the weather.
This week we will be taking a closer look at the water cycle and how it works.
Math – Please
continue to practice the flashcards that were sent home in the past. These
cards are +1, +2, and +3. The students need more practice with these facts, so
I will not be sending new flashcards home this week. We will have an assessment
on +2 and +3 facts on Thursday. Please continue to practice these flashcards in
order to increase fluency.
