Class News for the Week of October 2, 2017

Reading – This week we will continue working on our story, Twin Club. We will be focusing on character, setting, and plot. Our first reading assessment will take place on Friday, October 6^th.

Writing – We are still writing friendly letters to each other. Today we finished up our friendly letter to our principal, Ms. Whitaker. Tomorrow we will rewrite them and address envelopes for her.

Math – Thank you for practicing the math flashcards with your child. I am noticing a big difference since the beginning of the school year! The students are doing a great job with addition. Our first math assessment was completed today. We will be starting topic 2 tomorrow. This topic will focus on addition strategies.

Science – Our focus this week is on the moon and stars. We will be talking about the night sky. We will also be discussing constellations and the phases of the moon.

The students did a great job this past week with our PBIS behavior system. This week we are focusing on teamwork. If your child comes home with a “dress down ticket”, they are permitted to wear what they would like. Please keep in mind that it should be appropriate for school. This means clothing without holes, no inappropriate language, no flip-flops or tank tops. There is no fee for these PBIS dress down days.

Reminders

Students will be going outside for recess daily (weather permitting). Please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately.

Due to having a late lunch, our class will be having a snack mid-morning. Please send a snack into school with your child each day.
