Homework for the week of September 26, 2011

This week our class will start our science investigations. We will start by looking at balance. Although there will not be any tests for science at this time, the students are expected to participate in the investigations. These investigations are fun and the students love experimenting with the materials. During investigation one, we will look at discovering numerous ways to balance two-dimensional shapes.

In reading we will continue reading the story "The Big Blue Ox" (pgs. 56-65). We will focus on character and setting as well as visualizing a story. Our test will be on Friday, September 30th.

In math we will be studying:

1. Sorting by one attribute
2. Counting pennies
3. Identifying a number between two numbers
4. Dividing a solid in half
5. Picturing and combining sets
6. Graphing a picture on a pictograph

The students will have a math assessment on Tuesday, September 27th.
The test will focus on left and right, reading pictographs, and identifying circles, triangles, and squares.

Our spelling pretest on short o words will take place on Thursday, September 29th. Our final spelling test will be on Friday, September 30th.

In phonics we will continue working on short o words as well as -s plurals. We will also review short i words and words that contain the final x (examples: fox, box, etc.)

Our grammar test will also take place on Friday, September 30th. This week we will be working on identifying the action parts of a sentence. The action parts tell what a person or thing does.

Please check your child's Friday folder. Progress reports will be sent home on Friday. Please sign and return them on Monday, October 3rd.

Spelling – Write words 2x’s each

Tuesday (Day 5 – Gym)

Reading – Read story “The Big Blue Ox” pgs. 56-65 & discuss the setting.
Spelling – Write words 2x’s each
Math – HW 16B

Wednesday (Day 1 – Library)

Reading – Read story “The Big Blue Ox” pgs. 56-65 & discuss characters in the story and the setting.
Spelling – Study for pretest on 9/29
Math – HW 17B

Thursday (Day 2 – Computers)

Reading – Read story “The Big Blue Ox” pgs. 56-65 & study for test on 9/30
Spelling – Corrections 5x’s each & study for final spelling test
Math – HW 18B
