Homework for the week of November 29, 2011

I just wanted to pass along some information as to what we will be working on after we return from the Thanksgiving break. School will resume on Tuesday, November 29th.

In reading we will start a new story, “The Big Circle”. This story is about dinosaurs and I’m sure the students will love it! We will be focusing on sequence and encouraging students to go back and reread a portion of the story if it doesn’t make sense to them (monitor & fix up). We will have our reading test on Tuesday, December 6th.

Our spelling list will contain words that have the long o. Our spelling pretest will take place on Monday, December 5th and our final spelling test will take place on Tuesday, December 6th.

In phonics we will continue to learn about CVCe. When a word has a consonant-vowel-consonant silent e pattern, the vowel usually stands for its long sound. We will also be learning about contractions. Contractions are a shortened form of two words. An apostrophe appears where letters have been dropped.

In grammar we will be focusing on capitalizing days of the week, months of the year, and holidays. Our grammar assessment will take place on Tuesday, December 6th.

Our math lessons will focus on the following:

1. Estimating the capacity of containers
2. Drawing pictures to solve a problem
3. Identifying the even numbers to 20
4. Identifying and locating numbers on a hundred chart

Our written assessment will take place on Wednesday, November 30th. This assessment will consist of the following:

1. “Some, some more” and “some, some went away” stories
2. Identifying shortest and longest
3. Addition facts
4. Counting & writing numbers

Reminders

Book orders are due December 2nd.

We will be shopping at Santa’s Secret Workshop on Thursday, December 1, 2011. There is a form in your child’s Friday folder for shopping. Please send all money in an envelope with your child’s name.

Also, I would like to thank all the parents who sent in tissues. We are very appreciative.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
