I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend. They always seem to
go so fast. This will be a great week for the students. We have our field trip
on Thursday, October 6th. The students will be going to Lake Tobias.
The rain date will be on Friday, October 7th. The children are super
excited about their trip!
This week in reading we will continue reading our story, Exploring Space. This story will focus
on main idea and details. Main idea
is the most important idea about the topic. Small pieces of information that
tell about the main idea are called details.
Good readers look for the main ideas to help them understand the story. We will
have our reading assessments on Friday.
Grammar – This
week in grammar we will be identifying the subject of a sentence. The subject
of a sentence tells who or what does something. Our grammar assessment will
take place on Wednesday, October 5th.
Example: The girl will be an astronaut.
The
girl is the subject because it tells who.
Phonics
& Spelling – We will be focusing on reading CVe words. These
are words that contain the sneaky e at the end. Examples of sneaky e words
would be: face, age, Pete, dime, etc. We will have our phonics and spelling
assessments on Wednesday.
Science – We will
read and discuss the solar system. Flashcards will be coming home this evening
for science. We will be having an assessment next week. Please see next week’s
newsletter for more information.
Math – Please
continue to practice the flashcards that were sent home in the past. These
cards are +1, +2, and +3. The students need more practice with these facts, so
I will not be sending new flashcards home this week. We will have an assessment
on +1, +2, and +3 facts on Friday. Please continue to practice these flashcards
in order to increase fluency.
We will be working on the following in class this week:
1.
Adding in any order
2.
Adding three digit numbers
3.
Making ten to add
4.
Drawing a picture and writing number sentences
